5-axis measurements expand inspection capacities

Starting with a used measuring machine and a WENZEL LH 87 CMM in 2010, K&G Manufacturing has long been a loyal customer of WENZEL. Over time, however, the requirements changed and the investment in more productivity became necessary. Therefore, the next step was inevitable. K&G Manufacturing therefore commissioned the first Renishaw REVO 5-axis measuring head in combination with a WENZEL LH 1210. This machine expanded the inspection possibilities with its larger measuring volume and the flexibility that only the REVO 5-axis measuring head can offer.

But as is often the case, customer demand continued to grow, allowing K&G to purchase a second LH with REVO in 2021. Driven by high demand for a specific customer component, the need for this machine was proven through time studies. These showed the significant increase in productivity that a second measuring system could bring, while also providing capacity for future requirements.

"Thanks to the considerable time savings, we were able to optimize our measuring process using modern methods. Especially when inspecting the so-called 'fin' blade, the significant throughput advantage offered by the new coordinate measuring machine from WENZEL is evident. The REVO enables a much faster inspection compared to any other available probe configuration on the market," explains Brad Holloway, Senior Account Manager at K&G.

The running time with REVO is 7 minutes per part. The running time with alternative probing option (PH10 with SP25) is over 14 minutes per part.
